App: JHS English Developer: tanabee Last updated: 2026-09-30

JHS English (“the App”) is an Android app for practicing the spelling of junior-high-school English vocabulary by handwriting. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected, how it is used, and with whom it is shared when you use the App.

1. Information the App Itself Collects

The App does not collect names, email addresses, contacts, precise location, or any other personally identifiable information. The App has no servers of its own and never uploads your study data.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

The following is stored on your device only and is never transmitted by the App:

  • Study progress (per-word status, correct counts, last asked date, what you wrote)
  • Study streak
  • Settings (grade, question count, left-handed mode, reminder time, etc.)
  • Whether “Remove ads” has been purchased

The “Backup & transfer” feature lets you export this data as a single file to a location you choose (device storage, Google Drive, etc.). You are responsible for that file. Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data.

3. On-Device Features

  • Handwriting recognition uses Google ML Kit Digital Ink Recognition. The recognition model is downloaded once from Google’s servers (about 20 MB); recognition itself then runs on your device. Your strokes are never sent to a server by the App.
  • Read-aloud uses the text-to-speech engine installed on your device.
  • Reminders are local notifications scheduled on the device.

4. Third-Party Services

The App integrates the following third-party services, which collect and process data independently of the App under their own privacy policies.

4-1. Google AdMob

The App displays banner advertisements served by Google AdMob. AdMob and its partners may collect and use information such as:

  • Advertising identifier (Android Advertising ID)
  • IP address and approximate location derived from it
  • Device information (model, OS version, language, etc.)
  • Ad interaction events

This information is used for ad delivery, measurement, frequency capping, and fraud prevention. Because the App is designed mainly for junior-high-school students, ad requests are configured with a maximum ad content rating of “G” and request under-age-of-consent treatment (limited ad personalization). For details, see:

After purchasing “Remove ads”, no ads are shown and the AdMob SDK makes no ad requests.

4-2. Google Play Billing

The App offers a one-time in-app purchase (“Remove ads”). Payment is processed by Google Play, which handles your purchase history to complete the transaction and to restore your purchase on reinstall or on a new device. The App only stores whether ads have been removed; it never processes or stores payment card details.

4-3. Google Analytics for Firebase

The App uses Google Analytics for Firebase to measure aggregate usage. Events logged include:

  • Screen views (home, quiz, result, word list, settings, etc.)
  • Quiz start / completion with non-identifying parameters (grade, question count, correct count)
  • “Remove ads” purchase funnel events (shown / started / completed)

What you write, and which words you get wrong, are never sent to Analytics. Firebase Analytics processes data on Google’s infrastructure under the Google Privacy Policy, using a pseudonymous app instance ID rather than any personal identifier provided by the App.

4-4. Advertising ID Controls

You can reset or opt out of personalized advertising at the OS level:

  • Android: Settings → Google → Ads

5. Data Retention

The App has no servers and retains no data itself. Third-party services retain data according to their own policies referenced above.

6. Children’s Privacy

The App is designed mainly for junior-high-school students (roughly ages 12–15). It never asks users to enter names, email addresses, or other personal information, and does not collect such information itself. Users under 13 should use the App with a parent’s or guardian’s supervision. If a parent or guardian believes a child’s information has been collected inappropriately, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.

7. Changes to This Policy

This policy may be updated from time to time. Material changes will be reflected here along with the updated date above.
